FreeBay

Addressing Affordability and Access to Sport and Recreation

The aim of our concept is to help keep sport accessible and affordable for families in need.

Our platform will:

  • Facilitate the delivery of information on fee subsidy programs and how to access them

  • Create an online marketplace of used equipment available for donation and pickup within communities

  • Develop an inventory of green spaces and facilities available based on location

  • Curate the most current guidelines related to return to sport, availability of parks and playgrounds, and opening of programs

The Global Design Challenge is an event which gives participants the unique opportunity to find solutions to the challenges faced in sport and physical activity as a result of Covid-19.

FreeBay was awarded 2nd place in the hackathon of 188 participants hosted June 26th-29th, 2020.

Our concept addresses the concern that Covid-19 is expected to perpetuate systemic inequalities, and further limit sport participation for already marginalized communities.

how does it work?

Connect to existing networks of support

Sport organizations post resources, guidelines, programs, and available funding opportunities.

Locate resources and opportunities

Community members, participants, and families use the FreeBay web application to find what they need.

Evaluate impact

Sport organizations use customized Bingo Impact Management software to assess impact of funding programs and track the impact of Covid-19 on sport participation.
